Why do nursing mothers need support?

NMC peer counselors are experienced breastfeeding mothers themselves who have taken specialized training to support nursing mothers on the NMC phone lines. NMC volunteers are experienced, caring and understanding women who know first hand that breastfeeding takes patience and practice. We understand that nursing mothers do better when they receive the same loving attention they are giving to their babies. Support from friends and family, or even another mother who has nursed, can be as important as help from a doctor.

Recognizing that babies don’t pause for holidays, we try to keep help available throughout the year. NMC also has a small number of bilingual English-Spanish peer counselors available.

NMC peer counselors are available to support you. We offer telephone support to help you realize your breastfeeding goals through information and nonjudgmental encouragement.
