What Is Nursing Mothers
Counsel of Oregon (NMC)?
We are a non-profit group made up of women who have
breastfeeding experience and training. Our members have
volunteered to be phone counselors, providing support and
encouragement to new mothers and answering breastfeeding
questions. This allows each mother to make choices about
breastfeeding that are best for her and her baby.
NMC is also a source of information and support for women
who want to keep breastfeeding after returning to work or
school.
Pumps are available for rent through NMC.
Breastfeeding classes are available for parents, teachers,
and physicians.
Why do nursing mothers need support?
Breastfeeding takes patience and practice. Nursing moms
thrive when they receive the same loving attention they are
giving to their baby. Encouragement of friends and family
are as important as physician opinion. As empathetic peer
counselors, we have firsthand experience in the struggles
many women face.
What is Nursing Mother's Counsel's Philosophy?
To provide information and counseling in a non-judgmental,
respectful, supportive way, helping mothers enjoy relaxed
and happy relationships with their babies that fit their
individual needs.
